Thursday Motivation: BE ACTIVE
When I sit in front of the computer this usually means I will be sitting for a long period of time. So there were days I got so into my writing I could sit for more than two hours straight without getting up. And we all know that sitting at a computer for long periods of time can take a toll on your body.
Boy, was I cranky! Not to mention I was having headache and my neck got stiff. Ever feel that pain in the crease between your hip and your inner thighs or in the lower back after sitting for a while? Yeah, exactly.
Therefore, if you spend the majority of the day sitting in front of the computer screen, make sure you stand up, walk a bit, stretch up, do some squats, jump and drink plenty of water. I achieved that by removing things within arms reach. This means I had to get up to get a glass of water, or when taking a phone call, I had to stand up to go to the kitchen to eat. I didn’t put healthy snacks next to my screen anymore… If you can, make it a routine: Set an alarm everyday to make sure you get up once an hour. It worked for me. 🙂
Remember, you only need to do two things to counter the effects of sitting all day:
– Make sure you get up once an hour.
– Get about 30 minutes of activity per day.
My dear Reader, always be active! But that doesn’t mean only sports – you can burn calories doing everyday things like planting a garden, walking the dog, playing with your kids, and even chores like mowing the lawn, washing windows, or removing leaves from rain gutters. If you are a morning person, get up earlier than usual and work out.
Get up, stand up for your life! An active lifestyle will improve your mood, boost your energy and make you feel happier.
Remember, success is a journey, not a destination.
Have a happy day!
